I've seen After the Burial (who have breakdowns, chug riffs, cleans, leads, etc) using the Master Tube series live (only from pics, never heard it live) and they use 8 strings. My only concern is how well the amps will respond to lower tunings without mudding up and give me a nice, full, crisp chug (I like breakdowns and heavy palm muted riffs, sue me) while being able to maintain a nice, clear, and concise mid/high range in distorted and clean tones. Yes AJM there is a diode clipping circuit smack dab in the middle of the dual purpose 12AX7 drive circuit, ( V2). The clean channel's headroom is just epic.īoutique quality: Carvin amps are very well made for their price-point but they are not boutique. Not all Carvin guitar amps use diode clipping, but these do. To my ear they fall somewhere between the dark British E元4/84 sound and scooped Fender sound. Performance: Carvin amps have their own voice, so can't really be compared apples:apples to other tube amps. These methods can be use for the V3, the MTS and Legacy amps and the older Valve Master amps. The video shows both the Carvin method of measuring across the standby switch and using a bias probe. "It'll be a huge pain in the balls when it's time to replace the caps on this thing in 20 years." There is now a 'How to' bias video up for all you Carvin players. They use high quality components in their builds and their board jumpering and alterations are very clean: "You won't find quality stuff like Mercury Magnetics transformers in Marshalls or other amps at this price point." Carvin circuits are well designed and their boards are very intelligently laid out. I took my Legacy 2 to a custom amp builder recently to trouble-shoot and replace a burnt out resistor and cap in the clean circuit and here's the gist of what he said after taking things apart: Legacy Steve Vai Signature 2-Channel 100-Watt 4x12' Guitar Amp Half Stack. Are they a boutique quality amp at an assembly line price? Are there any other American made amps less than 1 grand available (not used)? (I know Peavey's used to be American made, but I think a lot of their amps are now made in Asia.)
